THE CONSERVATOIRE CELEBRATES AT THEIR ANNUAL GALA

The ‘Conservatoire Artistique de la Polynésie Francaise’ or ‘Te Fare Upa Rau’ has been one of the pillars in Tahitian dance transmission for several years and on the 7th of December 2016 they were to celebrate all their achievements with a grande Gala in Pirae that was attended by more than 2,000 people including the president of French Polynesia Edouard Fritch and his officials. In front of nearly 2,000 enchanted spectators, nearly 700 children, teenagers and adults of the traditional section of the Conservatoire gave the best of themselves, Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in the magnificent gardens of the Town Hall of Pirae, during a A show that paid tribute to the transmission of knowledge within Te Fare Upa Rau. In the presence of the President of the Country, Edouard Fritch, also Mayor of Pirae and the High Commissioner of the Republic, René Bidal, and the Minister of Culture, Heremoana Maamaatuaiahutapu, pupils, professors, musicians, choirmasters, dancers, singers and ‘Orero demonstrated the strength and beauty of a unique and radiant culture.

Dedicated to the valorisation of the traditional arts taught within the institution, this gala offered to the public about twenty portrait items presented by different age classes, ranging from small beginners to advanced students to adults . ‘Ori Tahiti,’ or Orero, traditional songs, with a choir of 250 young singers, percussion and ukulele rhythm were played during a two hour show, the theme this year was devoted to the transmission of knowledge dedicated to the founders of the school Maco Tevane and Jean Malric, the first director, 38 years ago.

Rendezvous in June in To’ata for the second great traditional show of Te Fare Upa Rau who are at the top of its form.
