Tahia and her passion for Ori Tahiti

Tahia and her passion for Ori Tahiti, Tahiti Dance Online wanted to know a bit more. Inaugurated by Tahiarii Le Bronnec-Voisard, now a year ago, the dance school Orihau Iki of Atuona has already been very successful, among adults as well as among teenagers and children.

Tahiarii has been practicing Polynesian dance since the age of seven. She started with Makau Foster, continuing her apprenticeship a few years later with Mateata Le Gayic, two great ladies of dance in Tahiti. Subsequently, Tahiarii joined the Manava Tahiti troupe for four years and participated in several Heivas including Hanatika, Teahiva and Fare Tou. Gradually she has acquired, thanks to her teachers and group leaders, experience and know-how that enable her to teach competently and professionally.

In 2012, she creates in Punaauia, the association “Orihau”, which could be translated by “dance in all serenity”. Indeed, Tahiarii thinks that dance is good, but it is necessary to take into consideration the life of the families. She did not forget the children who waited in the cars late at night and so decided never to make the students work after 8 pm or the weekend. The aim of its association is to participate, every December in Papeete, at the festival of the Polynesian dance, Hura Tapairu.

Originally from the Marquesas, and more particularly from Hiva Oa by his father, Tahiarii decides to settle in Atuona in 2015 and then opens her dance school, called “Orihau Iki”. Iki, means small-Marquesan, to keep the link with the association created in Tahiti.

The school now teaches dancing in a room in the sports complex of Atuona, from kids from 3 to 8 years old to adults, and teenagers from 9 Years up to about 15 years. About forty students are enrolled in courses, half adults and half children.

Tahiarii is passionate about dance and Polynesian culture. She teaches the various components of the Tahiti ori, with professionalism, knowing how to put herself within the reach of each of her students. A lot of work and rehearsals to get the right gestures, the best posture in order to participate in Tahiti in May 2017 in Heiva schools. For this purpose, event days, such as the Zumba afternoon and the color fun march, are organized to raise funds for the future travel of students to Tahiti.
