This 6th year, Te ea o Te Turama is excited to once again host amazing groups from all over Hawaiʻi island and share the Cultural Dance and Music traditions of our Tupuna. From riveting drum dances to melodic ʻAhuroa, cultural artisans and ono kine grinds, this is one event you donʻt want to miss. This weekend-long event kicks off with the Mr and Miss Heiva I Hawaiʻi 2017 Beauty Pageant. The tane and vahine of our community will compete in the casual wear, talent and evening wear segments of the competition, all with the elegance and beauty of Tahiti. This evening of romance will also feature a Tahitian Soiree of music and dance from Te ʻEʻa O Te Turama and friends.
Saturday marks the first day of competition beginning with solo dance competition in the Tamahine, Tamaroa, Tane and Vahine categories. Soloists from 2 years of age to 40+ years of age, are invited to showcase their individual talent and style in a competition where skill, stage presence and costume all count! The day will also feature couples competing in the coupleʻs category where two must dance in unison and compliment each other in skill and style. Group presentations will begin and will continue on Sunday. Groups may compete in one or more of of the following categories: Group ʻOteʻa, Group Aparima, ʻAhuroa and Tahitian Drumming.
Sunday will begin with the overall soloist competition to crown 4 overall soloists in the Tamahine, Tamaroa, Tane and Vahine categories. Group presentations will continue and the event will conclude with the Awards Ceremony.
Polynesian artisans and crafters will have beautiful items available for purchase and there will be plenty of ono kine grinds to enjoy!
