‘Tapa from the myth to the dance’, is a play performed by disabled and bodied people. A show presented at the ‘Cultural House of Tahiti’.
IMPRESSIVE- A short but intense show; traditional ans contemporary. The first time in Tahiti ! This dance have made its therapeutic evidence for over twenty years. It’s an extraordinary adventure, an experience that makes people change the way they look disability.
This tremendous project was born from a meeting between Jacques Navarro and a longtime friend Cathie Léveillé-Porché. The latter is a training dancer, then following an operation she was left paralyzed so therefore with a wheelchair, for more than one year.
This dance has been created by Cécile Avio at the beginning of the 1990 making it a true teaching method: it allows all these disable persons to harmonize their difference, to express themselves, to develop and assert their personality, to fit in and be a dancer.
In the month of July, Cathie L-P came in Tahiti during 3 weeks and Jacques Navarro appealed Marion Fayn and Tuarii Tracqui for the choreographies. Four young disabled (Apetahi, Bernadette, Hanivai et Heimanarii) joined them in this adventure and the dance takes shape, is played and filmed for a documentary.
“It is more than a movie, it’s a cause”, said the director one week ago.
