Since its creation in 2004, the traditional dance contest Hura Tapairu has grown in popularity each year. Created by Te Fare Tauhiti Nui to propose an alternative solution to smaller groups that could not perform at the Heiva, it is now the second most important Ori Tahiti event in French Polynesia.
After many months of choreography and costume elaborations, countless rehearsals for dancers and musicians, the groups could finally showcase their talents during the two week long contest. This year again the groups’ chiefs competed in creativity and technique to meet the crowded Grand Theatre’s expectations.
