Every city in Tahiti has at least one dance school as most tahitian children practice ‘Ori Tahiti.
The tahitian dance is inked in the polynesian culture and it is transmitted from one generation to another. Our dance is considered as a sport because it makes you sweat !
Every Wednesday and Friday afternoon, each dance school opens their doors to receive the young dancers aged between 4 to 18+, most of them are girls.
VAHENA DANCE SCHOOL –
Based in the city of Punaauia (TAHITI, FRENCH POLYNESIA), Vaheana dance school has been founded in 2009 by the marvelous Vaheana LE BIHAN.
WHO IS VAHEANA LE BIHAN ?
Started dancing at the age of 8 at the Artistic Academy of French Polynesia with Mamie Louise. She participated to the Heiva I Tahiti of 1987 and 1988 in beginners category with the dance group of Puurai in the city of Faa’a. In 1988 she won the title for the best dancer at the incredible age of 15, therefore she is the youngest woman that has ever won this title in this category in Tahiti.
In 1998 she integrated “Les Grands Ballets” of Tahiti as a professional dancer but also as a dance teacher until 2006 with Tumata Robinson at Vital California. She than flew to France where she gave improvement tahitian dance courses in an association.
She finally opened her own Dance school in 2009.
Vaheana has also been judging dance contests for many events such as Ori Tahiti Contest in Japan, the Heiva in San Diego, the Heiva Tapaeru in Tahiti, the Heiva Tapaeru in Mexico and Kawai.
‘Les Grands Ballets’ of Tahiti are the support of Vaheana dance school.
