Each year many traditional dance groups sell food and organize galas to fund their participation in the Heiva of the following year . The Ori I Tahiti group that will participate in Hura Tau ( professional ) category had the idea to organize an ” Art and Craft ” day dedicated to artisan confection. It is home of the culture that we could see on Saturday morning practices and friendly workshops to learn how to dye their own pareu , create their own cart and range in pae ore (dried pandanus ) or make their own flower crowns called Taaviri .
An opportunity for Terau the group leader, to convey his knowledge as way to preserve and promote the traditional ways which tend to disappear with the younger generation : ” Through these activities somehow we learn to identify ourself as Polynesians, as Ma’ohi “says the choreographer.
The day ended with a Ma’a Tahiti and a group performance to close this creative day in style.
